NEW ORLEANS –March 17, 2014- Attorney Edward Hayes has been selected as the Honorary Consul to Ukraine representing the economic and cultural interests of that country in the state of Louisiana. Mr. Hayes is a partner at Leake & Andersson L.L.P. where he is a leader in the firm’s international trade and business practice. Hayes received his L.L.M. with distinction in International Trade and Business from Georgetown University Law Center. “The Louisiana Consular Corps is delighted with Eddy’s appointment and we look forward to working with him in this new capacity. Ukraine is an increasingly relevant player in the global arena and Eddy’s appointment here may serve our city and state well as economic, cultural and educational exchange opportunities present themselves,” said Honorary Consul General of The Netherlands, and Dean of the Louisiana Consular Corps Constance Willems.
Ukraine is a nation of 44 million people. It is the second of the former Soviet Republics to appoint an Honorary Consul in New Orleans.
The Louisiana Consular Corps represents 55 nations in facilitating trade, cultural and educational exchange and understanding between nations on six continents and several southern states including Louisiana. Both career and honorary consuls are appointed by their nation’s respective Foreign Ministries with the approval of the United States Department of State.
